About NCPTA
The North Carolina Public Transportation Association, Inc. (NCPTA), is a private, non-profit organization, incorporated on January 18, 1983, with a mission to promote public transportation throughout the state.
It is the only transportation association in NC that represents public transportation providers in all 100 counties of the State. NCPTA’s members include a diverse group, ranging from large urban systems to the smallest of rural systems that deliver services that range from fixed route systems, light rail, community transportation and human service operations
NCPTA boast a broad range of affiliate members that include bus and van manufacturers, transit industry product suppliers; educational entities; private companies; local and state elected officials and agencies; and individuals interested in public transportation.
Through its membership NCPTA works toward one goal: increased mobility options for North Carolinians.

Our Mission
The North Carolina Public Transportation Association (NCPTA) serves as the primary voice of the public transportation industry in the State. NCPTA primary mission is to sustain and strengthen North Carolina’s economic and community vitality by supporting and advocating for public transportation. NCPTA works to foster the improvement of public transportation at the state, local and federal level by promoting the benefits of public transportation, representing the collective membership interests and exploring options to further support the mobility, operations, capital expansion and coordination of public transportation services.
NCPTA through the leadership of the Board of directors and engaged membership seeks to accomplish the following objectives:
- Advocating and promoting adequate, affordable and safe mobility for all North Carolinians;
- Serving as a resource network, collecting and disseminating information on local, regional, state and national public transportation issues;
- Providing forums for training and education through conferences and workshops;
- Uniting and representing the diverse range of transportation resources, interests, and individuals that can best meet the public transportation needs of consumers, advocates and communities in North Carolina;
- Strengthening and enhancing professional standards and ethics for the coordinated delivery of public transportation throughout North Carolina; and
- Working with and assisting federal, state, and local public agencies, private industry, and individuals to achieve success in ensuring personal mobility, economic vitality, and sustainable communities.
